While staying at the shelter, Gigi lost her appetite, which is an emergency since rabbits eat constantly. Soon, Gigi had lost two pounds and was becoming emaciated.
At the vet, x-rays didn’t show any blockage in Gigi’s GI tract, but blood tests revealed a problem in her liver. With an ultrasound, the veterinarian found liver torsion, which is when a lobe of the liver twists. This condition is usually fatal.
Poor Gigi was quickly transferred to a specialist who performed emergency surgery. Fortunately this was a case of "chronic torsion" rather than "acute torsion" and this sweet rabbit came through her surgery.
Gigi is expected to make a full recovery and has already begun to regain the weight she lost, but she still needs important medicine to treat her condition. Will you help Gigi continue her care?
