Help Save Pets in Crisis With the Largest Pet Rescue Flight in History
Thanks to amazing donors like YOU, we've hit our initial matching $150,000 goal to fly pets to safety. The John R. Peterson Foundation is now offering an additional $50,000 to be matched dollar-for-dollar. Help us meet our stretch goal of $50,000 to make this flight a reality!
$16,656 Raised! $33,344 to go!
Pet shelters in Hawaii are in a COVID-19 crisis. Normal operations are affected by months of shut down, limited hours, and routine transports have ceased. Shelters are struggling to find enough fosters and adoption options in their locations, leaving many at or beyond capacity. We must help them save these pets!
On October 29, Greater Good Charities and Wings of Rescue are partnering with The Animal Rescue Site and YOU to fly over 600 pets on a chartered Hercules C-130 plane to safety. Departing from Hilo on the Big Island, these sweet, loving dogs and cats are being moved from overcrowded shelters on five islands and will be flown to the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia - where they’ll be quickly adopted into loving homes. That’s over 2,500 paws flying across the pacific!
In addition to flying pets to their new families, we’re providing enrichment and critical medical supplies to assist the shelters and the pets remaining.
Community pets in Hawaii are at risk, and without this flight, won't get the help they need. This emergency rescue effort is being conducted in coordination with the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association to ensure the safety and health of pets on the flight.
You can help! Just $25 helps cover the fuel costs of flying a pet 625 miles towards safety. If you are able to contribute, please help these pets reach safety during this difficult time.

In shelters across the country, highly adoptable dogs and cats are at-risk just because the shelters are overcrowded. In other areas shelters have a shortage of adoptable pets. Greater Good Charities works with Wings of Rescue to see homeless pets by flying them to shelters where they’re immediately adopted.
Flying 642 homeless pets from five islands, across the Pacific to shelters awaiting to care for them and find them new, loving homes is a massive operation. Greater Good Charities and Wings of Rescue are proud to work with and have the support of so many people and organizations to help make this happen:
Hawaiian Humane Society, Lanai Cat Sanctuary, Hawaii Island Humane Society, Maui Humane Society, Kauai Humane Society, Aloha Ilio Rescue, Kauai SPCA, The Animal Rescue Site, Banfield Foundation, VCA Charities, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Petco Foundation, Royal Canin, Healthy Paws Pet Insurance & Foundation, MuttNation Foundation, PEDIGREE Foundation, Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association, Kamaka Air Cargo, and a very generous grant from the John R. Peterson Foundation. And of course, none of this would be possible without YOU caring enough to help.
Greater Good Charities has ultimate authority and discretion with regard to the distribution of its funds. All expenditures made are consistent with the exempt purposes of Greater Good Charities.
Doubt if ANY rescue flight to date has been 4300+ km or nearly 2700 miles long. Huge Thanks to John R. Peterson Foundation's triple dollar match, which will allow 642 threatened Hawaiian shelter pets' lives to be saved WITHOUT astronomical single contributions needed. Loving adoptions in Pacific Northwest surely await all fliers (I plan to fund several of these myself.)
This is such a worth while and very special cause. Paws Across The Pacific! The importance of helping with cats and dogs Fly Pets To Freedom events is life saving. This particular Fly Pets To Freedom! is extra special in the fact that over 600 adorable waiting pets for their new homes will be a dream come true not just for these cats and dogs but for the people who will adopt these beautiful animals into their forever homes and lives. I am happy to support this cause and many like them helping save innocent cats and dogs that would otherwise have no chance at a new life. Thank you to everyone for helping this flight come true for these fur babies. And a special thanks to The John R. Peterson Foundation who will triple every dollar we donors give to this cause. That is wonderful. I love the fact this flight will take place on Thursday October 29th this year. That day is National Cat Day. Being cats awareness day what a purr-fect day for cats to be adopted (as well as dogs). Have a safe and great trip. Thank You Animal Rescue Site for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this very special day for these pets in need.
What a Great Organization to partner with (Wings of Rescue and The Greater Good Charities along with the support of the numerous other Organizations whose mission is to assist and aid in the placement of displaced animals.)!
And special recognition to the John R. Peterson Foundation that has offered a generous Grant to match monies donated by animal lovers near and far.
