Hand-carved by master sculptor Emmanual Mabika, this gorgeous serpentine stone bird bath is a one-of-a-kind decorative piece for your home. The design of the dish centers around a floating hippopotamus and showcases the beauty of this locally-sourced dark stone through both textured and polished surfaces.

Based in Harare, Zimbabwe, Swahili Imports extends each artisan's channel of trade from local markets to the global marketplace, all while providing artisans the option to work from the comfort of their own homes and communities. Secure in the knowledge that the fair payment they receive will not be reduced by traveling expenses, childcare costs and haggled prices, most artisans in the Swahili network promote their family's future by using earnings to put food on the table and pay educational expenses for their children.
In addition to supporting these highly skilled individuals and their community, the products created are made with the environmental impact in mind. Artisans are encouraged to utilize recycled, reclaimed and highly renewable materials in product design. Great for the environment, and ideal for creating one-of-a-kind works of art!
I could not believe how beautiful the Hippo Bird Bath is - heavy which is good especially for outdoor use. I have it near our bird feeder filled with water. Our neighborhood birds welcome the nice cool bath plus it adds a wonderful touch to our front yard. I absolutely love this piece!!!! Anyone would.
I knew I had to have this hippo when I laid eyes on him. (The first one was damaged in transit & returned to the GreaterGood, who contacted me & promptly sent a replacement. Great service!) My hippo is gorgeous - the carving is truly well crafted. It is a perfect birdbath depth - not too shallow, not too deep. I will be bringing this in during harsh winters to prevent splitting in the frigid winters. ;) Very pleased.
These are truly gorgeous to me! I keep buying more, would love to buy 100 and give them away! Only drawback: I do feel badly for the UPS delivery drivers, the boxes are very awkward and heavy - these bird baths are really a substantial piece of rock! (Of course, if I had funds to buy 100, I'd have funds to tip the drivers VERY WELL. And I would, too.) I've 3 so far, and they are all so unique and different, I want to keep them all! After my first order, I was so impressed, I wanted to buy one as a gift. I originally bought another for a friend, but it was so different than the first that I'm keeping it myself! I will put it out as a big beautiful dog bowl, for the beautiful big dogs. I am going to put 1 outside today, now that temperatures are warming up - not sure how these will work outside in the (freezing) winter. I'd expect they'd be okay but don't want to take a chance. Happy Spring!!!
