Help us reach our goal of providing Abida and 30 of her classmates one year of education in an effort to increase the numbers of girls in school and help end early childhood marriage.
Meet Abida. She is a Girls' Voices Scholar, and her dream is to become a filmmaker after she finishes her studies. She enjoys going to school, but she is falling behind. She works to pay for her education, and she is the only one taking care of household chores. At the end of the day, she is exhausted, and it is causing her grades to suffer. Since she has fallen so far behind in school already, her parents want her to get married instead since they can't afford the expenses for her to finish her education.
Around the world, educated girls are more likely to escape childhood marriage and elopement. As the number of school dropouts decreases, so are the numbers of childhood marriages. Girls are seeing this positive change in their community and it is motivating them to continue their education and break the notion that marriage is the ultimate goal in life.
Here at Greater Good Charities, we are working with a group of incredible young girls to help them develop new skills in digital media, storytelling, and creativity. We invite you to join us as we continue supporting this same group of young girls in their pursuit of education. When you donate, you are helping eliminate economic struggles, unite communities, and pave the way for a new reality to exist where all young girls are educated. Can you imagine such a world? We can, and we invite you to join us!
Your continued support is needed to ensure that Abida can stay in school. Without it, Abida and her classmates future is threatened. Just $15 helps to send a girl in India to school for six weeks and ensure her bright future. Invest in girls’ education today!
Update from Girls' Voices Scholars in India
Girls’ Voices, a Greater Good Charities Signature Program, works with young women in classrooms around the world. First, we teach Girls' Voices Scholars about digital storytelling—igniting their creativity, passion, and leadership—then, we support their education with scholarships so they can complete secondary school.
Here is one of Abida's classmates, Sowmya, who created an award winning micro documentary about the confidence and agency she is cultivating in her life.
