And then there were 6! Don’t leave Tomas behind!
Animal Defenders International rescued 21 circus lions and tigers that were languishing in small, rusting circus cages in Guatemala, waiting to be saved. They waited, stripped of all dignity and sat bored in bare boxes. With your help these animals were rescued from the circus and brought to the ADI temporary rescue center. We originally rescued 5 lions, Kimba, Sasha, Nena, Tanya and Tarzan. Now Kimba’s brother Tomas has come to join the family - help us care for all 6 as we prepare to move them to their forever home- the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa.
After the suffering of these animals in Guatemala was exposed, the country banned the use of animals in circuses. So, if we help these animals, no others in Guatemala will ever be forced to suffer as they have.
These animals need food, veterinary care, a new home in Africa to live out their lives and the cost of their flight. With your help, Animal Defenders International (ADI) will save all 6 lions.
Animals have suffered for decades in traveling circuses in Guatemala. After the extent of this suffering was exposed, thankfully the country banned the use of animals in circuses. However, an unintended consequence of this ban is that many of the animals—including these five lions—are languishing in small, rusting circus cages, waiting to be rescued. These animals need food, veterinary care, a new home to live out their lives, and safe transportation to that new home. Lioness Sasha who is waiting to be flown to her new home will also need veterinarian care. She suffered a leg injury in the circus and is unable to put weight on one of her paws. With your help, The Animal Rescue Site and GreaterGood.org are teaming up with Animal Defenders International (ADI) to help Sasha and the others find freedom.
This is key: once these animals are rescued from their cages, no animal will suffer again in this way in the country. These animals have endured so much, but they could still have years of freedom ahead of them. Even better, this historic mission could encourage more countries to act to end the suffering of captive wildlife.
These captive former circus lions urgently need you to rescue them from terrible conditions and relocate them to a new life. These big, beautiful creatures will need safe, suitable holding units once removed from their cruel cages, and they will need food and care. Then, your support will airlift the lions to ADI's wildlife sanctuary in Africa; these lions will go from cramped, bare, and dirty circus cages to roaming the African savanna in huge, safe enclosures where they will receive the care they need, for life.
You can help! Even as little as $6 helps get these freed yet still suffering lions to a new home in Africa, where they should have been all along.
