"You don't need a bull hook to control an elephant. You can guide an elephant with love -- and bananas." - Lek Chailert, Founder of Save Elephant Foundation
Meet Noi Na, a 70-year-old, partially blind Asian elephant once captive to the trekking industry, now gloriously free and protected in the Elephant Nature Park sanctuary nearly 500 miles away from her cruel captivity.
Noi Na was a service elephant, one of thousands of Asian elephants broken for service in logging and trekking, malnourished, and without adequate medical care. A team of elephant rescuers, led by world-renowned Asian elephant conservationist Lek Chailert, embarked on a daring 48-hour mission 500 miles across Thailand to rescue this captive Asian elephant and bring her to freedom. Her story is told in the upcoming documentary film Love & Bananas, screening across the U.S. on Earth Day.
While Noi Na's story exposes the plight of Asian elephants, the film focuses on hope and also the people who work tirelessly to save these gentle behemoths and raise public awareness of treatment of Asian elephants. Love & Bananas aims to ignite a new way of thinking about this species and shows what can be done to prevent the extinction of Asian elephants.
