We need your help to care for the stray cats living on the streets of Hong Kong.
In Hong Kong, the amount of feral cats living in the streets is rapidly growing. When the public complains about feral cats, they are trapped and killed by the government. Moreover, given that street cats will always reproduce much faster than the government can catch them, they are never removed quickly enough or in sufficient numbers to stabilize or reduce feral cat numbers in any area. Studies have shown that merely removing these cats creates a vacuum that actually increases the street cat population and large numbers of at-risk kittens die from disease, malnutrition, accidents and other hazards. As a result, the government method of trap and kill is neither effective nor humane.
This is where the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Hong Kong (SPCA) comes in. The SPCA runs a Cat Colony Care Program which works to reduce the numbers of stray cats in the community and to break the cycle of suffering that results from uncontrolled reproduction. The cats are subsequently transported to the SPCA for spay/neuter and they are assessed both behaviorally and medically. Friendly, healthy cats are accepted into adoption to find their forever homes. The vast majority which are not suitable for re-homing are vaccinated, microchipped, and spay/neutered. They are then returned to their colonies, happier and healthier, to live out their lives under the watchful eyes of SPCA's registered volunteers.
We need your help now! Your gift will help to spay/neuter, microchip, ear tip, and provide preventative medical care in the form of vaccines and parasite control for stray cats living on the streets of Hong Kong.
The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Hong Kong (SPCA) mission is to promote kindness to animals, to protect their health and welfare, to prevent cruelty and, through education, to inspire in the community a deep respect for life so that all living creatures may live together in harmony.
