Skilled weavers and dyers in Sololá, Guatemala create these super-soft infinity scarves. Hand-spun skeins of yarn are carefully hand-dyed for deep color saturation and variation, then woven on a backstrap loom by skilled women who bring the scarf to life. Made of the softest bamboo, this style makes an infinite circle that can be worn looped once or twice.
The scarves are made by the women of Asociacion Maya de Desarrollo, a cooperative of 180 master backstrap loom weavers who live in six rural villages in the highlands of Sololá, Guatemala. Co-op members weave from home, allowing them to care for their families rather than seeking migrant or domestic work. By incorporating contemporary fibers and designs, the co-op helps the weavers create marketable products using the ancient technique of backstrap loom weaving.
