Global Mamas is the name brand for goods produced through the efforts of Women in Progress, an international not-for-profit organization assisting women of Africa in attaining independence. All proceeds made by Global Mamas' sales go directly to the women producing the merchandise and to the development programs carried out by Women in Progress.
Sales of Global Mamas' products provide dignity to African women who are now able to earn an honest living through the production of handmade batik and beaded products. By helping women to help themselves, Global Mamas is taking small steps towards helping end Africa's dependence on foreign aid and creating a sustainable society.
Before joining Global Mamas, Lydia Wright struggled to provide for her three young children while her husband lives and works in Nigeria. Her orders would peak during the holiday season, but she had very little work the rest of the year, and was forced to let go three of her apprentices.
Since becoming a "Global Mama" herself, Lydia has expanded her business and increased revenue by 150%, brought on additional employees, opened an account with Progressive Women's Credit Union to save for future expenses, purchased a sewing machine, and paid school admission fees for her daughter. Lydia is well on the road towards successful small business ownership.
These little clutches are delightful.I have bought one and am about to buy another.Do I need another clutch? No!I already have another one,the BeadedTribalClutch from this site, which is lovely.I am so pleased every time I see this "patchwork" clutch that I crave a second one!The design and stitching of the clutch are more expert and pretty than shows in the photos. They hold a lot, too!Mine came with a little card saying it had been made by Gladys.I thank Gladys &the Ghana women artisans!
These clutches are well made and very striking. I bought 2 of them after previously buying a large tote made by the same artisans, which I also think is unique and beautiful.
