Give girls in Kenya like Barbara access to the education they deserve. Help us reach our goal of $3,000 to send 30 of Barbara's classmates to school for a year!
Girls' Voices scholar Barbara (pictured right) was originally sent home at the beginning of the school year because her tuition of $100 per year could not be covered. At that point Barbara's options were limited and she was willing to do anything to help provide money for her family.
Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, Barbara was offered a scholarship. When the school received the funds Barbara was sent for, she came to the school with her parents and the whole school was summoned to an assembly to celebrate with Barbara, who was in tears as she received her scholarship for the year ahead.
Your continued support is needed to ensure that Barbara can stay in school. Without it, Barbara and her classmates are left to desperate circumstances. Just 50 cents a day can send a girl in Kenya to school, and ensure her bright future. Invest in girls’ education today!
Update from Girls' Voices Scholars in Kenya
Girls’ Voices, a GreaterGood.org Signature Program, works with young women in classrooms around the world. First, we teach Girls' Voices Scholars about digital storytelling—igniting their creativity, passion, and leadership—then, we support their education with scholarships so they can complete secondary school.
Here is one of Barbara's classmates, Radhiya, who created an award winning micro documentary about the confidence and agency she is cultivating in her life.
Radhiya's video earned her the Courage Award in the 2018 Girls' Voices Contest.
"Empowerment, to me, is the ability to strengthen my own will and self-esteem. I am able to do what I need, without any fear of being criticized or judged. My experience with the Girl's Voices has been adventurous. I have never been able to express myself as I did in front of the camera with the Girls' Voices. The team was friendly and did not judge me but understood me well. I have gained courage and improved my self-esteem and I have really made a lot out of myself. Being criticized now doesn’t affect me more like it did before." — Radhiya, a 2018 Girls' Voices Scholar
Girls' Voices, a GreaterGood.org Signature Program, empowers girls to utilize videography to raise scholarship funds to complete their secondary education. Our goal is for girls around the world to connect to their voice. We teach each Girls' Voices scholars to use the power of digital media to create images, stories, and visual metaphors that can communicate their strength and potential to the world.
