A stunning hand-embroidered sling that gets attention! The Gypsy Collaborative Project creates original designs made in collaboration by two skilled women's artisan groups. First, artisans of gypsy heritage in rural Northern India hand-embroider traditional Kutch style themes and patterns on fabric. Next, women seamstresses from Poonam, a women run organization providing employment and training to skilled and unskilled women artisans, sew the fabric into bags or small finished pieces for jewelry components.

The idea of combining the talents of different groups of artisan women for one product is new for us. While the logistics are more challenging, the results are beautiful. Not only are we providing work for rural women whose skills are in very traditional fine embroidery not often used in modern designs, but we are providing work for seamstresses and jewelry artisans, making multi-layer beneficiaries for one piece.
