Help Gus heal from injury and sickness!
Gus was a happy, beloved member of a wonderful family with 2 small boys. He was loved, and he loved his life. But suddenly, in an instant, it all changed.
Without any warning, Gus lost the use of his back legs. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors found that he had slipped a disc in his spine and required immediate surgery to have a chance at walking again. He had lost sensation in his legs and the ability to go to the bathroom. To complicate things, Gus had developed aspiration pneumonia. As a French bulldog, Gus is vulnerable to both conditions – a slipped disc and pneumonia.
With an uncertain prognosis, Gus’ chances were diminishing by the minute. Rescuers mobilized to help this family, who sacrificed their own hearts to do what was best for Gus. Two rescues, two emergency hospitals and everyone who loved Gus came together to give him a second chance at life and mobility. A top surgeon performed Gus’ surgery, as his chances of recovery were dependent on rapid intervention.
Gus made it through surgery. His spinal cord shows significant swelling, and it will be some time before he will regain function of his lower body, if he ever does. For now, Gus is resting on pain medication to allow healing to begin.
Will you join with us to help Gus? Gus was surrendered to an animal refuge with love, in an effort to give him the best life possible. His family made the ultimate sacrifice, knowing Gus’ needs exceeded their ability. The care he will now need is delicate and intensive, as he needs to be crate rested for a month and his bladder will need to be expressed.
Help us meet our goal of $9,500 to save Gus and give him the best chance at a bright future, whatever it may look like. Funds raised over the goal amount will go to help provide medical care to other shelter pets.
